How This Land Became a Calling

A simple step of faith. A hidden spring. A place meant to be shared.

Our Story

More than twenty years ago, a simple step of faith led to the purchase of a piece of land many would have called “the middle of nowhere.” At the time, the question was simple: What are we going to do with it?

We didn’t know then that it was more than a family getaway. God had a plan.

Tucked along the Trinity River, the land held a hidden treasure—an artesian pond with clear, living water—quietly waiting to be uncovered. What began as a mud hole eventually revealed a free-flowing artesian spring that, over time and much effort, became the beautiful lagoon you see today. It was a process that took years, patience, and vision.

As the land developed, so did its purpose.

There was never a desire to build something commercial or grand. Instead, the property gently shaped itself into what it is now—a private sanctuary meant to be shared with those longing to step away, slow down, breathe deeply, and perhaps even dream again.

Thirty wooded acres offer space to gather, reflect, and rest. There are cozy Airbnbs, tents tucked beneath the trees, and a stunning white sandbar along the Trinity River where petrified wood and fossils can still be found. It is both peaceful and quietly adventurous.

For many years, this land was filled with the laughter of family and friends—shared meals, long conversations, and unhurried evenings outdoors. Over time, it became clear that the gift of this place was not meant to be kept to ourselves.

After thirty-five years in photography, I thought I might finally slow down. But as a lifelong dreamer, I found myself hesitating before the Lord, saying, “Oh no… I’m dreaming of doing something big again.” His response was unmistakable: “I’m dreaming with you.”

That was enough.

In recent years, this journey has been one of prayerful steps—learning what to build, what not to build, and how to move forward without rushing. The direction felt simple: Build it. They will come. One step at a time.

And so, here we are.

Trinity River Retreat exists to be exactly what God intends it to be—a place of restoration, quiet fellowship, and return. A glimpse back to the garden, where creation speaks, hearts find rest, and peace settles in the stillness.

We hope you’ll come and discover what this space might offer your own journey.

Our Faith & Values

Trinity River Retreat is grounded in Christian faith.

We believe God is the Creator and Sustainer of all life, and that nature reflects His beauty, order, and design. We see stewardship of this land, its waters, and every living thing as a sacred responsibility.

From the beginning, God chose the garden as a place of fellowship with humanity. We believe there is something deeply restorative about stepping into creation and slowing down enough to notice His presence there.

Our faith is rooted in Scripture and expressed through love, humility, and grace—not judgment. While we welcome guests from all walks of life, our values are shaped by the teachings of Christ and a desire to reflect His heart.

Our hope is to offer a place marked by peace, hospitality, and compassion, where every person is treated with dignity as we share and care for this beautiful piece of God’s creation together.

From Pond to Living Lagoon

One of the most remarkable features of Trinity River Retreat is the artesian-fed lagoon. What was once a simple mud-bottom pond has been thoughtfully restored into a unique swimming experience rooted in the natural flow of the land.

Unlike traditional pools, the lagoon is filled with fresh artesian water drawn naturally from the earth. With the opening of a valve, mineral-rich water flows freely into the lagoon without pumps or chemicals. The result is a clean, refreshing swim that feels as close to nature as possible.

When the water has completed its cycle, it is gently released back into the nearby lake. Each fill offers a renewed, fresh-water experience, honoring both the integrity of the land and the gift of its living water.
